The Polish Violinist and Composer, Henryk Wieniawski, has been regarded as one of the most prolific virtuosos of the 19th century. He studied at the Paris Conservertoire from the age of eight with Clavel and Lambert Massart. Later, extensive concert tours took him to Helsinki, Vilnius, Riga, Dresden, Britain, and North America, where he was accompanied by the pianist Anton Rubinstein. He also spent time in Russia as the 'Solo Violinist' to the Tsar and as a tutor at the St. Petersburg Conservatory.
Legende was dedicated to his wife, Isabella Hampton (the niece of George Osborne), whom he married in 1860.
