With an appendix consisting of transcriptions of documents apertaining to the Organ. Including:

- Extracts from the Libri Computi of Magdalen College Oxford (A.D. 1481-1695)
- The Agreement between Anthony Duddyngton and the Church Wardens of All-Harrows', Barking for the Organ (A.D.1599) [from the original document preserved in the Church Chest]
- The Charges about the Organ of King's College Chapel, etc., [from the Books of Kings College Cambridge]

The author, Edward Francis Rimbault, was a musicologist, composer and organist and was responsible for reviving interest in early organ music and makers in England.
